Q. Who pays for Adult Day Services (ADS)?
A.  The AAA’s have many programs for people who are financial and clinically eligible for ADS. Both Philadelphia and Coatesville VA fund ADS.  Their as some long term care insurance that reimburse services. Medicare unfortunately does not pay for services and most insurance carriers don’t either.

Q. What should I look at when I visit ?
A.  Every ADS has it’s own look, but some basics to consider . . .

Is the physical space clean, comfortable and odor free?
Is the staff engaged with participants?
What is the participant : staff ratio?
Are the clients just sitting, or are there a variety of activities from which to choose?

Q. What transportation is available?
A.  A few Centers offer private transportation, but most use the SEPTA paratransit system.  While visiting ask for an application for CCT.

Q. How will I convince my love one to attend ?
A. Hopefully the visit to ADS will sell both you and your love one.  Each individual is different and it is wise to discuss transition ideas during your visit.  Sometimes describing the Center as a “club”, “church group” or volunteer experience is reassuring.  It is important to realize that you are making a good decision for your loved one and yourself.  Do not try to convince someone with dementia that they are wrong and you are right.  Get them to the Center and we’ll do the rest.
